more sketches

some more sketches of my form development flashlight. I had to compromise somewhat on my design. My teacher wasn't feeling the futuristic one that looked like a "spaceship." However, he really liked the simpler squid one. So I combined the concept of the rod partition and the form he liked to come up with this final direction for my flashlight design. Ideally, the green rods are emergency glow sticks, that if needed can be snapped into glow if the user wants to use the flashlight as a torch lantern, or if the batteries go out. Thus, it's sort of a multi-use emergency flashlight as well.

As I am getting closer and closer to the actual stage of fabricating this form, I am sort of worried as to how I will pull off the two part rod section of my light...

But either way, we can't do anything til the school gives us our foam. I feel like the administration department at our school is being irresponsible when they force us to pay a ridiculous amount of tuition, just to sit around and have us wait for materials for 5 weeks. IMO, that is grounds for a refund. But, as all IDS students, we don't even have time to picket because the hw sketches pile up.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Especially to my beautiful girlfriend Christine! I just got back from seeing He's Just Not That Into You. It was pretty good actually. haha. Anyways, here's a pic of the cake before we grubbed out on it.

Look what I found! so i was looking around Google, and stumbled upon a picture of my very own teapot. i think it was from my model making teacher's blog of teapots he liked. Mine and a few of my classmates, as well as my roommate Amy's teapot were featured in his random picture blog site.

another day of sketchin...

So I decided on going in the direction of designing a flashlight for Form Development. After reviewing the initial form concepts, the class chose their top favorites. These three were the manta ray, insect, and airplane. I worked to actually put the function into the form and came up with these forms. Still pretty, raw and underdeveloped, but details in the form can come later. Do you guys see a squid? I see one, after combining the three concepts.

On another note, here are some sketches chiseling away at the Design Drawing 2 hw. Come up with a minimum of at least 36 different hair dryers.

I WISH I COULD BE LIKE HIRO NAKAMURA!

it would be great wouldn't it? To be able to control space and time. Especially when you have about 56 presentable pages of sketches MINIMUM, each week. It's great though. Instead of writing a 36 page research paper a week, I get to sit down for about twice as long, 1/2 as much sleep, and ten times the fun, drawing whatever I imagine in my brain.

Here is another day of finished work. FINALLY I am done with Design Drawing 2 homework for the week. The assignment was to come up with some simple forms using line only, and redesigning them slightly. I have about 36 all stacked up on that table.

On another note, I dropped Trans 1 for this semester, mainly due to the time constraints of taking that and Form Development simultaneously. Even my teacher advised me that it would be pretty tough to do it all in this semester. So, by dropping trans1, I am predicting that I will have more time to excel in these other classes. So far, it's allowing me to sleep 5-6 hours instead of 3. I guess that's somewhat of an improvement. haha.

I may drop trans 1

so i may drop trans 1 this semester... i dont know, I just think I want more time. plus I'm on the second degree fasttrack anyways, so staying one extra semester to take trans 1 or product 1 another semester will not hurt me. In fact, i think itll give me more time to develop. anyways here's my first day of critique in trans. and also heres just ssome stuff im working on right now.
